Originating from the mediterranean basin, thyme is famous since thousands of years for its culinary, cosmetic and medicinal virtues. Today still, it is used to treat coughing caused by bronchitis, pertussis and superior respiratory tracts inflammation. It relieves digestive and gastrointestinal.
Respiratory tract inflammation: Infuse 1 to 2 g of dry plant into 150 ml of boiling water for 10 minutes. Drink several cups a day.
Dental plaque, stomatitis, halitosis, laryngitis et tonsillitis: mouthwash or gargles. Infuse 5 g of dry plant in 100 ml of boiling water for 10 minutes. Wash or gargle with cooled and filtered preparation 2 to 3 times a day. It is also possible to dilute a few drops of liquid extract in water.
Clear out the respiratory tract: 2 spoons of thyme in a bowl of boiling water. Cover your head with a sheet, bend your head over the bowl and breath slowly. A few minutes is enough. Thyme, like eucalyptus, contains terpens which have an expectorant effect.
